Kraine
Gallery

The Kraine Gallery, founded in 1983, is being revived in NYC's East Village at its original location, 85 East 4th Street, a building with a particularly storied history.

Erected in 1838, it had been the headquarters of the first Women’s Aid Society in 1878; meetings of Emma Goldman’s Secret Society of Anarchists were held there in 1914 (as reported by the New York Times); with the advent of prohibition in 1920, it was home to Lucky Luciano’s Palm Casino Speakeasy, later the Ukrainian Labor Home (1948) and most recently, literary icon KGB Bar (Kraine Gallery Bar) 1993-present.

Now is the time to bring together art legends who are still with us and artists who will carry the mantel into the future. The East Village will continue to influence the art world with its unique ability to open doors to new movements and mediums as it did when it was still Little Ukraine; home to punks, hip hop artists, and drag queens. East 4th Street between Bowery and 2nd Avenue is the only single-block zoned arts district in NYC, and 85 East 4th Street is well positioned near such notable neighbors as New York Theater Workshop, La Mama Theater, 4th Street Photo Gallery and IATI Latinx Performance Space and Company.

Our roster includes an artist who was represented by the Kraine Gallery in the 80’s: Copie Rodriguez; along with those who are new to us but embody our vision: Anthony Haden-Guest, Richard Humann, Rose Hartman, Heide Hatry, Mark Anthony Love, Mr IDIAZ, Donna Mehalko, Jason Fesel, Sadie Schwarz, Blake Sandberg, and Denis Woychuk.
